Tate Britain – Eadweard Muybridge Exhibition 22nd Oct 2010

Yesterday i went to the Eadweard Muybridge exhibition at the Tate Britain with the university. At 8.30am on the 22nd of October we left the uni heading for London, the journey took roughly three hours, three long hours considering i hate coaches! After pulling up outside the Tate at 11.30am the teachers gave us a few words and said we had to be back outside at 2.30pm so that the coach could take us on to the V&A, after all that boring stuff they left us to our on devices and we went in.

For the first hour or so i was just walking around looking at all the art the Tate had to offer. Looking around i found myself drawn to the work of John Linnell, one piece particular “The Windmill” caught my eye, the depth and colour of the clouds make it look so real i couldn’t take my eyes off it. Anyway I’m going off the point of why we made the trip here. After buying my ticket to get into the Muybridge exhibition which by the way was 10 pounds! would of been 8.50 but stupidly temporarily forgot i was a student when buying the dam ticket!…oh well only 1.50 difference.

So anyway i got in and started reading about his work and life, turns out he was born in Kingston upon Thames which is just down the road from my house :). In one of the rooms was a projection from a zoopraxiscope (which he invented) projecting various stop frame animations including the famous horse in motion to name one. I was blown away walking into the next room where i saw a seventeen foot panorama for San Francisco layed out in a straght line, the way he put the individual pictures together to create one big one was the reason i found this piece so impressive. That was it, i think there were only 4 rooms which was a tad disappointing to be honest considering i spend 10 pounds to get in.

By 2.30pm we were on the coach heading for the Victoria and Albert Museum. Now the reason i didn’t add this into the title of this post is because i didn’t go in. Seeing as i have  lived in London all of my life i’ve been to the V & A so many times before and i wasn’t feeling like walking around pretending i was excited about it when i had seen it all before, so i went home 🙂
